Abstract

Dental caries is a condition that attacks the hard tissues of the teeth which is influenced by various factors, including host, agent (food), and environment. This study assessed the oral health status of primary school students attending SD Klangon, in Sedayu, Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A cross-sectional study was conducted using the convenience sampling method to collect a sam-ple of grade IV and V students. After obtaining written parental consent, nine children agreed to participate in the oral clinical eva-luation. The def-t index was used to assess the oral health status of each student. The results of this study revealed a caries pre-valence of 100% among the subjects, and none of them were caries-free. Males had a mean def-t of 3.1, while females had 1. Children under 12 years old had a mean def-t score of 3.89, which was greater than that of children older than 12 years (0.22). The calculation results showed a total value of (d) (e) (f)-t of 36 resulting in a def-t index value of 4. It was concluded that the in-dex value fell into the moderate category, the average child examined at SD Klangon had 4 teeth affected by caries.
