Abstract

Bone graft is a tissue capable of promoting new bone formation, transplanted into damaged bone, either alone or in combination with other materials. From marine biodiversity, marine sponge can be one of the options as a biological material for bone graft uti-lisation. This review discusses the potential of marine sponge as bone graft in the formation of bone regeneration. Through sys-tematic review, articles were searched through PubMed, MDPI and Google Scholar databases and analysed. In total, 370 arti-cles were obtained from the initial search, but only 15 articles met the inclusion criteria, which showed the positive effect of ma-rine sponge in bone regeneration. It was concluded that marine sponge has great potential as a bone graft in the formation of bone regeneration, especially when combined with other biomaterials that have proven effective as graft materials.
